Description
This is a 1965 Schwinn Traveler mens 3 speed with Violet paint.Violet was common on Schwinn girls bikes. However it was only used on boys bikes in 1965 and 1966. You just don't see many of these.
The 1965 Traveler was a higher end Schwinn Lightweight with 26" x 1 3/8" S-5 wheels. It had better Schwinn parts and a lot of chrome.
This has a Sturmey Archer AW 3 speed hub. dated 67. So the hub or wheel has been replaced. The wheel is nice and would be identical to the original except for the date on the hub.
S-5 wheels have a raised center, under the spokes, with knurling. S-6 wheels are the same size but are flat without the raised center. The Traveler has S-5 wheels.
I bought this from a BMX restorer / mechanic who says he is starting to do some old Schwinns. I did not work on it and do not know the complete history of the bike or what was done. He said he bought it because of the rare Violet color. He really did a nice job cleaning it. It is also riding like a new bike. He said he replaced the tires, the inner brake cables, and the grips with reop chubby grips.
Please don't buy this thinking it is a proper restoration with all original parts. Most of the parts are original. Anything replaced is a repop or from another Traveler. It looks original. It looks really clean. It is dialed in, greased, has new tires, true wheels with tight spokes, It rides like a new bike. It is a head turner as they say.
It looks like the rear hub or wheel, the white chubby grips and possibly the front fender have been changed. The original brake pads have been replaced with black ones.
The front fender has a chrome brace. The rear fender look like it has cleaned cad braces.
There are scratches in the paint. I have them pictured. The bright chrome and clean shiney paint make the scratches less noticeable.
It is too expensive to return a bicycle because the shipping could be 0 for both ways. eBay encourages sellers to take returns these days. I don't want to have to get into that with a bicycle.. So, please ask questions or ask for more pictures if you are unsure of anything. I don't like to hide anything about what I sell. I like to know what I'm getting and I'm sure everyone else does too.
I have shipped hundreds of bicycles. I will be able to pack this properly and will pass on the most reasonable shipping costs available.
